The warm weather and high winds played havoc with our plans. The plan was to go to Banff Springs Spray River up to the washed out bridge at the Goat Creek junction. This trail was a mess of pine needles and and poor icy tracks. Plan ” B ” go up the the Mt Shark Trails. Off we set only to be thwarted by avalanche control on Hwy 742 Spray Lakes Road. Plan ” C ” Lake Louise. Stopping at the Info center to find they had just started to groom the Moraine Lake Road. Easy choice to make so off we went.
Conditions were near perfect on Moraine Lake Road at Lake Louise. Helen and Bill starting up the trail with the sun on there faces.
After about and hour we met up with the groomers on there way back. Great job done by the Parks Canada staff.
At the end of the track set trail we stopped for lunch in spring like conditions. The group from L to R. JR, Helen,Dana,Georgia,Bill, and Peter.
After the fast run back down to the trail head we arranged for the cars to pick us up at the Old Train Station ( Now a restaurant ) at the bottom of the Lower Tram Line. A very nice run down hill into Lake Louise. Around the corner of the above photo is a steep shoot down across the ridge with the road below.
Distance 18 km.
