The hiking blogs are sidelined with Sunshine Village surprised opening, one week earlier than planned. A good crowd was on hand for opening day. We arrived at the parking lot at 8:30 and were well down the lot. No snow in sight at the Gondola Station. Decided to drop off at Goats Eye and miss the crowds at the upper village. It already looked skied out at 9:00 but where there was some fresh powder it was crusty and heavy. Legs were burning half way down a short run. Moved on to Wawa to join the crowds and the snow was much better, not as heavy. Spent most of the day on Wawa with a couple of runs on Strawberry. Snow depth is fine for this time of year. Now it is all packed down it will be well set up for the season. Looking for some cooler weather and fresh snow. On Friday afternoon they opened Standish. Grooming is on going up on Angel and the Divide. Yesterday (Friday ) I was back out hiking and the temperature was 13 C. Lifts opened Wawa, Strawberry, Jack Rabbit and Wolverine.
