December 6th 2016
I have taken pictures the past two weeks while zipping around Sunshine. The last week of November saw no new snow. The weekend of the first of December saw over 30cm. Conditions are much improved. Snow was made and pushed down the lower part of Birdcage behind the Day Lodge. No more rocks but it is sure icy now. The Ski Out is now open and snow is being made on the lower corners. I have not ventured down yet. Goats Eye remains closed. Bye Bye Bowl is skiing well with some nice soft turns between the chop. They have groomed a huge swath of it which is unusual. The big news this week is the very cold weather. On Monday it was -17 C. Today Tuesday -25 C. Nasty, but I have been introduced to HotShots and they work great in the mitts keeping the fingers warm. All day on Tuesday there was a Sun Dog that went right around the sun like a halo. Enjoy the pictures.
Bill, these photos are incredible, I can’t wait to see these vistas with my own eyes! I’m wondering whether you can impart some knowledge and advise me – I’m coming to Banff (from the UK) on 17th December for 15 days and hoping to do a bit of downhill skiing (hopefully 7 days), as a novice do you think I should choose Lake Louise or Sunshine? I’ve seen the SkiBig3 passes but it looks to be cheaper to get a membership card and stick to one … or should I stop being a cheapskate and get the SkiBig3 multi-day passes? what do you reckon?
