Skiing Delirium Dive Sunshine Village

April 17th Friday 2015

Another monkey off my back. A check mark on the to do list. Got to get it done before I am too old. One more off the Bucket List. So yes I have now gone down Delirium Dive. Of course it is not a big deal once you have done it but it just has to be done at least once. Greg and I borrowed the transceiver, poles and shovel from a friend. Then did a practice at the Wawa transceiver site. Luckily they had just got some fresh batteries from Parks Canada so the site opened up in front of us. Then it was off up the Divide Chair and through the transceiver activated gate. We had to wait as a sit skier was being pulled up by Jamie from Rocky Mountain Adaptive Sports. It is very encouraging to know someone on a sit ski can go down the world-famous Delirium Dive. I was thinking it cannot be that tough. We had a beautiful day in the morning with nice snow at the top. The lower section was still a little hard from freezing the night before. I would go again for sure but for me it has to be a nice clear sunny day.

What I found to be a bit disappointing about skiing the Dive is the bottom portion of the ski out. There are two sections where you have to walk. One of them is shown in this picture. The other is the section you find when you come out from The Shoulder into a big open meadow. Then it is a run down Forget-Me-Not from the junction of Eagle Creek to Goats Eye.
