Ships Prow

Lft high point at Chimney Rt Ships Prow

July 5th 2017

The ships Prow scramble starts at the bridge across the canal at Goat Pond 10.5 km from the Nordic Center. Turn immediately left after crossing the bridge and park left keeping the gate clear.Walk along  the canal for about 0.8 km at a small gravel pit head into the trees for a bit of bush whacking. Keep the watershed and the ridge to your left. As the trees start to thin come out onto the ridge. The way is now clear to the first col. At the col go left to the big cairn. Continue up to the rocky high point. A bit of a scramble gets you up through a small crack and onto slab rock. As you reach the top of the slab, NOT the top of the of the high point, the chimney down will be seen. More hands on scrambling brings you down to the Ships Prow Ridge. Follow to the end. Great views into Canmore. Quarry Lake looked very inviting on such a hot day. Although on the return we cut across the scree missing out the Chimney it was not very pleasant and we may have made better time returning the same way. Also we took the watershed gully down hoping for a scree run. Nada it was brutal. Large rolling talus mixed with even larger rocks. What you see at the top you get all the way down. Go back down the way you came up.
