July 24th Wednesday
Rockbound Lake is a hike located behind Castle Mountain. The trail parking lot is 200 m south on 1A from Castle Mountain junction. Scrambles to Castle Mountain, Helena Ridge and Stewart Knob are acessed from the same trail.
The trail is nice and wide as it winds it’s boring way up through the trees.Just as you leave the parking lot you can take a right spur to Silverton Falls only 1.4 km return. It takes about 1.5 hrs before you break out of the trees and catch your first sight of the Castle Mountain wall.
Alpine flowers and small meadows before reaching Tower Lake.
Tower Lake is small and beautiful good time for a drink before gaining more height.
A short steep climb and Rockbound Lake is in view.
We walk around the lake counter-clockwise and find the path in the trees. Stay close to the lake and the trail is in sight on your right.
The trail climbs steeply up to our top of the rock knob a great place for lunch and admiring the panorama.
Return by the same trail and the joy of the thought of an ice cream at Castle Mountain Chalets
Total Distance return 20 km. Elevation Gain 975 m. Time 2.5 hr to Lake. 6 hr return.
