Ribbon Creek Left Upper Terrace Right Lower

Today was the Canmore Senior’s Association weekly cross – country ski trip to Ribbon Creek. The temperature was very mild that day and we were fortunate for the good weather during that morning. We all met at Sobey’s parking lot in Canmore, Alberta as usual and decided who was going to drive up to Ribbon Creek. Once we had arrived at the creek, we all headed into the warm up shelter to put on our boots and quickly plan out our route that we would be skiing that day. Although we couldn’t access Ribbon Creek from the parking lot that day as usual because of the bridge that been washed out from the June 20th flood.

We found that you could access the trail from The Kananaskis Delta Lodge Hotel parking lot. Once we were on the trail, we made the decision to take the Terrace trail to Kovach via the lower Kovach Lookout trail. Once you have skied along the Kovach Lookout trail, you will find that the route takes along to the Aspen trail. From the Aspen trail you can connect back onto the Kovach trail where you will find yourself turning right to get back onto Upper Terrace. Upper Terrace will lead you directly back to the trail head. We decided to have lunch at The Kananaskis Delta Lodge in front of the fire place which worked well for us.

Once we have reached the junction point at Upper Terrance, we all decided that it would be a good idea have a look at the map provided. After a couple of minutes to study the map and determine where we were, we thought it would interesting if we went exploring up the Kovach route. We set off blazing the trail, the conditions were fairly good considering that it was a mild warm day. Once we had reached the top of the Kovach trail, we waited for the rest of our friends.  There are rewarding views of Kananaskis Country from Kovach trail.
