Mount Weed is accessed from highway 93 north the Icefield Parkway. Drive north from Lake Louise. From the turn off at the Bow Summit to Peyto Lake it is 7 km north. The paved pull out is on the west. The trailhead is a walk north of 400 m. Look for the small cairn east, as shown in the picture below. Follow the trail up the creek for about 825m and turn right up a steep embankment. Walking along a treed ridge south. We did not find a trail taking off to the left up hill either coming up or down. So after some bush whacking with a bit of luck you come out through the trees to see the big boulder gates ahead. I think there are two sets. Both set you up for the long slog up the scree gully. Push on and on until reaching the summit cliffs. Then work over to the left for the summit. All though relieved to be out of the scree gully it is still another 350 m to 400 m with some route finding to the summit. Great views from the top. On clear day you could see as far north as Mount Athabasca and south to Mount Assiniboine. Well over 100 km each way. Return the same way.
Distance return 8.10 km Time return 8 hrs ( inc 30 min lunch ) Elevation Accumulated gain 1424 m Elevation to Summit 1385 m Summit height 3080 m
