The Rundle Range #3 Peak is one of the many peaks of the Rundle Range. For this one I am counting from the Banff end. The accepted route is to climb E.E.O.R. and walk along the ridge to the highest peak at the Banff end. The walking part stops at the 3rd Peak where it becomes more technical. Doug had been from EEOR along the ridge to #3 and run out of time so was keen to see if the next part was accessible without doing the whole route again. The plan was to cycle down from the Goat Creek parking on the Spray Lakes Rd and forge away up the creek to the summit. The creek is the fourth down from the Goat Creek parking. The time we hoped to save did not materialise due to the hard bushwhacking up and down the creek. Unfortunately we did not find an easy route up through the rock band.
I have not taken many photo’s because I thought I had broken my camera. The screen on the back is shattered from a fall from my bike to my left, hitting the camera in my backpack. The few photo’s I did take are from my phone. As it turned out when I got home the fall had dislodged the battery cover so it still works.
The rock wall in the above photo is where you would try your hand at getting to the summit. I think a rock climbing background would help at this point.
From this point we could look over the edge into the Bow Valley. We had hoped there was a route around a rock pinnacle as there was a cairn leading to this point.
Distance return 7.75 km Time return 7:30 hrs Bike 1:30 hrs( inc 30 min lunch ) Elevation Accumulated gain 770 m Elevation to Summit 1300 m Summit height 2800 m
