Meanderthals hike up Mt Fairview. Very simple Hike/Scramble but has great views of the Lake Louise area. The trail starts at the upper parking lot at the Chateau Lake Louise.
Turn left and follow the signs to Saddleback. Do not go to the Fairview Lookout.
The trail climbs right away through the trees. Soon peek a boo views give you a chance to stop and catch your breath.
There are a few switchbacks and some short cuts you can take before reaching the Saddleback at 2330 m.
The path ahead is now obvious and does not relent until the summit.
The summit is at 2750 m. Lots of room at the top and a great place for lunch and a chance to take in the panorama. The Valley of the Six Glaciers lies in front on Mt Victoria. The trails up to Lake Agnes, Mirror Lake, Mt Piran, Niblock and White. In the distance the glacier of the Waputik Range.
There is a way down off the ridge that comes out at Surprise Pass but can be hard to find and we came back the same safe way. Mt Saddle could also be climbed from the Saddleback Col.
Total Distance 10.2 km. Elevation gained 997 m. Time 4hrs, 3:20 hrs moving 1:00 hr stopped.
