Skiing into Lake O’Hara Cross Country Skiing has been on my to do list for sometime. Also going there in the summer but that will be another post hopefully this summer. Today we got lucky with the conditions. The warm weather had left the trail almost unskiable but we got some fresh snow and it was a great ski. Your poles could feel the crunch of the ice but your skis were very happy on the new layer of snow. It was -7 C on arrival at the parking lot, warmer than in Canmore, and at the end of the day only -2 C. A VR 40 blue wax worked well most of the day. I had a bit of clumping under foot on the last of the hill climbs but that gave good grip and was fine coming back down without changing or adding wax.
As you can see from above the snow was wonderful. In fact I would say it was deeper for the first 5 km than the last 5 km.
Just another photo of the great conditions.
Here we all are at the dinner table at the half way point. We waited until Le Relais day shelter for lunch.
Lots of deep snow at the Day Shelter. What a nice touch to be able to sit down for lunch and have a nice warm fire burning.
Sorry gang I got some light from the window behind spoiling the shot.
After skiing around the lake behind the Lodge it was time to head back. The round trip is about 20km.and time wise about 5hrs with lunch.
