Grand view of Grizzly Peak . Trail across from Ripple Rock Creek
Grizzly Peak is located on Hwy 40 46 km south of Hwy 1. and 1 km from the Grizzly Creek parking. Park on the road side.
Although it is April 20th the weather was as warm as August. The trail leaves on the north side of Ripple Rock Creek. The distance to the summit is only 3 km but the elevation gain is 870m. The trail is well defined and after the crux through the first rock band it leads to the south and east to traverse round to the back of the peak. The gradient is un-relenting until reaching the saddle. From there it is a short steady plod to the summit on grassy slopes. On the return we managed to find ourselves off the main trail on a lower path on the last part of the traverse as it is well worn I suspect many others have done this so I have marked it on the GPS Map. This is another enjoyable hike /scramble from Hwy 40 and the Kananaskis Valley.
