Winter Walk on Larch Island Canmore

Bow River and East End of Rundle

December 16th 2017

The lack of snow and a promise to end up at the Legion for a beer and burger after the hike is all the incentive I need to get out walking. We started from Rexall drug store and walked along  11 ave turned right down the old rail line to the trail system that heads toward the Canmore Golf Course fence in the Larch area of town. As shown on the map below. I have walked or biked along most of these trails but in the summer you cannot  get over the river to the Larch Island piece. This is a delightful walk especially when the sky is clear and the views are stunning in every direction. Not shown on the map. An extra little loop we did was over the old railway bridge and turn immediately left to go between the water  channel from the Trans Alta Plant and the main river..  The picture that show’s the road bridge gives an indication where you come too. Then off to the Legion for beer and burgers. I would recommend the burgers as one of the best I have had. Also on at the Legion was a Jazzy Christmas put on by the Valley Winds Big Band. The entry was a donation to the food bank. A great morning walk followed by wonderful music by talented Canmorite’s
