April 1st Tuesday

Mt Shark is a cross country trail system that is usually track set for cross country skiing. Today we set out on the regular trails to do the Mt Shark Spray Lakes Loop XC Skiing. The route was across the lake to miss the small stream ( later found out at this time of year it has an ice bridge ) that flows in from the left side of the lake and then back to the left bank and down to the bridge near the Watridge Lake area on the Mt Assiniboine Trail. On the lake due to the low levels there are lots of what I call Craters that are deep holes that make it hard to ski through. The weather was warm about -2 c  and a nice dusting of fresh snow. The trail had to broken the whole way across the lake. When back on the trails a large group returning from Mt Assiniboine did the work for us.

The trails have not been track set for sometime. Turn right here up the hill and then left down the next trail.

After this point my camera switched it’s self to video so there are no more photo’s.

Also at this point half the group headed back. On the way back we took the left ( right on the way back ) bank back and crossed the small stream on a nice sturdy ice and  snow bridge. This saved us from scurting around the crater.

Distance about 15 km for Loop / Time about 4 hours.
