March 28th Thur. Last Thursday outing for the Canmore Seniors Group.It was disappointing but the conditions are too unpredictable. Although the pictures show perfect snow conditions what you cannot see is the ice and later in the day the moisture. I had a nasty fall on the last downhill of the day just before Boulton Creek Parking, when my skis decided to put the brakes on when I should have been blasting down.
So back to the plot we arrived at Bolton Creek to find pavement in the parking lot.
Not to worry the trails will be fine. Started off with red sticky wax and it was not too bad on the very icy tracks from the trail head. By the way a bob sled would have been at home on that type of icy track. We headed up Boulton Creek Trail to the Elk Pass Trail and the skiing was excellent in the trees were the sun had not melted and frozen the snow.

After the Hydroline turn off it was up the Pass to the Blueberry turnoff and the picnic table for lunch about 7.5kms

After lunch we soldiered on up The Pass with the intention of coming back down the Hydroline Trail but with the heat of the midday sun we were having a hard time getting up the hill so decided discretion is the better part of valour and turned around for home.Coming back we took Fox Creek trail and Moraine back to the cars.
A very succesful first winter of cross-country skiing with great conditions. I would like to thank Geoff for his great organisation and his super knowledge of all the trails.Lots to see next year but in the mean time it’s up to the Nordic Center for a few last laps weather permitting.
