Heart Mountain Loop via Grant MacEwen Peak

Heart Mt

June 12th 2019

Although I have been up Heart Mountain a few times I just realised I did not have it on my blog. So here it is. Trail starts at Heart Creek next to the Lac Des Arc  overpass .It is on the East  bound side of Hwy #1. Some people will park on the grass verge if they are doing the Loop to save the legs on the walk back. Of course it is the same distance. The picture below shows the yellow sign showing where the scramble starts. Emphasis on scramble. This is not a hike. The picture with the Red Triangle shows the CRUX if you miss this you are going to have a bad day because the trail which is well worn goes no where. A lot of people go no where. That is why it is well worn. Once at the top of Heart at about 2078 m there is another 100 m to go. From Grant MacEwen follow the trail through the trees and down the ridge. At the bottom hit the trail and turn left for another 2.5km back to the car at Heart Creek. How ever many times you do this scramble it is always steeper and longer than you remember. A nice early season work out.

Ridge down that leads to the Twin Peaks. Nasty down climb at end of ridge stops most people going this way. Try from barrier Lake.
