Emerald Lake Cross Country Ski Trails

Near the end of Tally -Ho with trains at Field

January 27th Friday

Looking for a place to go skiing this weekend look no further than a drive out to Emerald Lake. Today we skied across the lake to miss the avalanche chute, not that great, then along Tree Hugger to the Alluvial Fan Loop. It is in good condition with the odd whoops over creeks. Then back on the Horse Trail which was very nice. After a tour of the lodge and lunch in the parking lot it was off down to the Natural Bridge and on to the Tally-Ho Trail. Fresh grooming on soft milky snow made for the best run of the day. This trail is not very wide but with the soft snow one foot in the track and one out braking worked well. I am sure some speedsters could stay in the groove all the way down. Had a quick look at the Kicking Horse Trail on the old road and it was double track set with nice snow. Temperature about -9C. Gripped well on blue wax.

Emerald Lake and store.
