Coming up through the snow filled gully before the summit

May 29th 2013 & again on October 13th 2014 Thanksgiving.  May 6th 2016 ( See slide show )

Weekly Meanderthals hike. The weather did not look good with low cloud and rain predicted later in the day. We parked off the road just short of the Goat Creek parking lot. The trail starts just past the the old sign( just a black frame) which is getting hard to find. Once on the trail it starts to ascend and the gradient does not relent until you reach the summit.

The trail starts winding through the trees

The first fifteen minutes or so wind up through the trees before breaking out into a more rocky section.

Trees start to thin out into rocky sections

The views, if you can see them, start to appear down the Spray Valley and into Canmore.

The area in the picture looked as if there was not to much snow, but out of view there was lots of fresh wet snow from the recent rain falls.

Still heading up in the trees but getting steeper.

After the craggy bit it opens up to a wide open to scree and rock.

The lower section had less snow. The snow was soft and just deep enough to make nice foot holes.

We hit the summit about 2 1/2 hours from starting out. This is not the summit you see from down in Canmore, and it was to cloudy to see it today. To reach the other pyramid summit you could walk along the ridge or head more to the right on the edge side and come up through one of the other gullys as I have done in the past.

After a short lunch break  we headed down before the weather got worse.
